A Few Common AP English Literature SamplesAP English Literature Exams are taken to determine a student's proficiency in the English language. So, if you are planning to take the AP exam, you may want to know a few AP English Literature samples.One of the more commonly-used English Literature samples is the title page from Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'. The page is typically a short introduction to the play, which is written in three-line paragraphs. Students are expected to read through each of the three lines, thinking about the title and theme of the piece.Some of the other samples you can use are that of 'Hamlet', 'Othello'Taming of the Shrew'. In each of these examples, you will notice a similar structure. In the case of 'Hamlet', the student is first asked to 'describe the main character, the situation, and their motivation as a character in the play'.Some of the most common AP English Literature samples you will encounter in your studies are those of Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudic e'. In this example, students are asked to read a page from the book and then to write about it. Students will then be asked to answer a few questions about the page. This sample is also commonly referred to as 'Taming of the Shrew'.'John Milton' is another frequently used English Literature sample. The sample is structured in a four-line paragraph and asks students to compare and contrast Milton's descriptions of the characters and situations with the characters and situations found in the story. They will then be asked to name some specific events, characters or locations in the story.The commonest English Literature samples used in AP Exams are those written by James Joyce. The structure of the four-page sample will start out with a couple of lines, and then they will read the rest of the piece as a single uninterrupted line. While this seems to be quite simple, many students find it difficult to read and write this way.The next English Literature sample is one of T.S. Eliot's fa mous 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock'. This is a sample which requires you to read and to then translate a passage from the story into an essay.Finally, the third most commonly used English Literature sample is one of Joyce's 'Ulysses'. The sample begins with the translation of a few lines and then continues on to a few paragraphs of narrative and prose. Again, this is not something you want to be unprepared for!
